On September 8, on the day of the celebration of the 165th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Grigoryevich Shukhov, a military department was opened at the university. The decree on its restoration was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 1, 2018.

The flagship university of the Belgorod region is one of the best universities in the country from year to year in various classifications. The rating of the reputation of higher educational institutions in the enlarged RAEX directions in 2018 wasn’t an exception: BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov took the 45th position in the field of technical, natural sciences and exact sciences.

The first meeting of the Academic Council in the new 2018-2019 academic year was held at the flagship university of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov.

The traditional games "Atman's Fists" took place in the village of Atmanov, the corner of the Tambov region. More than 11 thousand people gathered there. The main event of the holiday was the national tournament the "Russian Wall", which introduced the sports and patriotic club "Belogor" of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov together with the federation of ethnosport of Russia.

Summer labor shift for the students working in construction brigades of conductors, was completed. It should be recalled that the student brigades of conductors of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov began serving long-distance trains from the middle of May 2018.

BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov is implementing a project to create race cars of the formula type Formula Student class already for four years. The engineering and racing team of SHUKHOV RACING TEAM has already created 4 racing cars with an internal combustion engine and took part in the international competitions of the Formula SAE project in Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

For the first time a festival of student songs "Atmosphere" was held in Starooskolsky urban district on the shore of the Sorokinsky water reservoir. The construction brigade of the flagship university of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov was the organizer of the event.

A solemn line dedicated to the Knowledge Day and the beginning of the new academic year was held on 3rd of September at the university square of the flagship university of BSTU named after. V.G. Shukhov.

The third All-Russian Festival of Folk Culture "Printed Pattern Round Dance in bast shoes" was held in Graivoron (Belgorod Region) on September 1. It was dedicated to the celebration of the 165th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Grigoryevich Shukhov. The flagship university was the partner of the event.

BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov summed up the results of the 2018 admission campaign. There is a steady growth in all respects, in comparison with 2017. 3324 freshmen entered the flagship university.
