History of our symbols

Coat of arms and flag of V.G. Shukhov BSTU were approved in 2002. The special university commission, namely BelGTASM, held a competition for the best graphic representation of the symbols of University. The best coat of arms was selected and sent for examination to the commission of graphical representation under the head of the administration of Belgorod. The final decision was made by the academic council of the university. That is how our university acquired the present coat of arms and flag.

Coat of Arms

"In the azure (blue) shield, the golden Lion, sitting on a brick foundation with a burning gold torch in his right paw."

Figures depicted on the coat of arms mean the following:

Lion — a symbol of strength, power, courage, mercy and generosity;
The torch is a symbol of knowledge;
A brick foundation is a symbol of building materials.

The meaning of the colors of university coat of arms:

Lazur (blue) — a symbol of greatness, softness, beauty;
Gold (yellow) — a symbol of wealth, justice, generosity;
Silver (white) — a symbol of purity and innocence;
Crimson (red) is a symbol of beauty, a life-affirming force.

Flag

If the coat of arms is a symbol of university rights, indicating a certain independence, the flag of BSTU is a symbol of students and academic staff unity.

Flag description

The flag is a rectangular cloth of 2:3 ratio, depicting two vertical stripes of white color (1/3 width) and blue color (2/3 of the width). There is university coat of arms in the upper part of the white stripe and university abbreviation "BSTU" written in white letters on red ribbon at the bottom of the white stripe. The ratio of height of the coat of arms to the width of the cloth is 3:9.

The main colors of the flag are blue and white:

The blue color of the flag is the main one, occupying 2/3 of the cloth, because it is the color of the coat of arms.
White color, in addition to heraldic meaning, also reflects the main content of the city's name, where University is located — the White City (Belogorie), which was founded on the white limestone mountain. White is the symbol of Belgorod.

In addition, blue and white colors are presented both on the flags of the most world countries and on the Russian flag. White, blue, red colors are reflected in the people's way of life and their manifestations and in the nature of Russia. That is why these colors are best for Russian representation, and has became the colors of the national flag of Russia, which contemporaries called "Faith-Hope-Love." And for the symbolic expression of the external appearance of the university — blue and white.

The approval of the coat of arms and flag of the university, and later the composition of the anthem has allowed further work to be carried out to popularize these colors for patriotic education of our students.

Corporate identity

The university flag and the coat of arms are supplemented by the corporate identity of the university is. Corporate identity includes the university logo, font and design, as well as recommendations on the use of these elements in the design of the locations, printed materials and souvenirs.

The corporate image is a simplified drawing, resembling desks in the lecture hall or the ladder leading up. This sketch expresses study process, the prospects for personal and professional growth that university provides and links to BSTU constructing specification.

The main colors are different shades of blue, mostly on a white background. A dark red color is used also to represent recognizable symbols, for example, the V.G. Shukhov memorial or his famous tower. The Corporate identity was approved by the rector of V.G. Shukhov BSTU. S.N. Glagolev in May 2017.

Anthem of V.G Shukhov BSTU

The anthem of the university was created in 2005. The competition for the best anthem lyrics was held at the university. As a result, the members of the intra-university commission selected the lyrics of the Belgorod musician and poet Tamara Fedorova, and the composer and musician Nikolai Kryukov wrote the music.
