Belgorod Shukhov State Technological University is an educational training centre of specialists of highly professional level, successfully solving the most complex problems connected with high competitiveness of domestic industries and developing the most perspective directions in science.

The postgraduate study of the university has been functioning since 1973, and doctoral studies since 1999. For all the period of existence, the postgraduate and doctoral studies have had more than 800 dissertations successfully defended for the degree of candidate of science and more than 70 theses for the doctor of science degree.

Currently about 60 doctors of science and more than 50 candidates of science and professors, including more than 30 honored workers of higher educational institution of the Russian Federation and honorary workers of higher educational  institution of the Russian Federation are involved in scientific mentorship of more than 450 graduate and aspirants students.

The training of top skill specialists is carried out through the postgraduate studies department in 15 disciplines according to the programs of higher education and for 23 professions of scientific programs for postgraduate and in-service education. Since 1993 foreign graduate students are studying and many have successfully defended their dissertation works for the candidate of science studies degree. About 20 doctoral candidates and aspirants of academic degree have conducted researches for doctor of science in five (5) scientific specialties.

The training of graduate and doctoral student candidates is provided on modern scientific and laboratory base which maintains high level of training of experts aimed at creative work for the benefit of our country.

At the university there are two (2) doctor's dissertation councils where dissertation papers are presented for defense in five (5) specialties for candidate and doctor of science degrees.
