Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov held a working meeting with a delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic led by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, President of Damascus University Mohammad Osama Al-Jabban, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Syrian Foreign Ministry Akel Mahfoud.
BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov was represented by the Deputy Director of the CIEC Allah Yasser Seyffiddin as a member of the working group of the Ministry of Education on organizing the arrival of guests. At the meeting, they discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of training personnel for various industries, agriculture, transport and communications, information technology and healthcare. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim noted that the Russian language is highly popular among the citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic, and noted that 40% of Syrian teachers are graduates of Soviet and Russian universities. “This also contributes to the strengthening and development of the Russian language in Syria,” Bassam Ibrahim emphasized. The meeting also discussed scientific cooperation between the two countries. At the moment, 68 cooperation documents have been signed between Russian universities and Syrian organizations. In his speech, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation noted that several Russian universities are systematically operating in Syria, including Belgorod State Technological University named after V. G. Shukhov.
Also BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov took part in the first international Russian-Syrian conference "Ways of Avicenna". The organizers were the Ministry of Health of Russia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic. Dr. Yasser Allaham spoke in detail about the experience of the flagship university of the Belgorod region with the Arab countries, in particular, Syria. Active work of BSTU named after V. G. Shukhov on the development of Russian-Syrian relations was highly appreciated by the Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The conference has become a landmark event and a strategically important initiative that contributes to the strengthening of humanitarian cooperation and the development of interaction between the two countries. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bassam Ibrahim, expressed his country's interest in preparing for the second conference in 2023. The Syrian delegation also met with Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko. Russia and Syria plan to develop cooperation in the field of infectious safety.
