Importance of historical education discussed at the Ministry of Education and Science
The head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov said at a meeting of the Expert Council for the Development of History Education about the importance of history education. “The importance of history as a science and academic discipline has always been that it forms the attitude of society to its past, ensures the continuity of generations, forms the consciousness of the individual and moral values. Historical education plays an important role in preserving and strengthening the cultural and spiritual identity of the Russian people and state, protecting it from attempts to falsify historical facts and events. In this regard, purposeful activities of authorities, civil society institutions, historians and teachers of the humanities are needed to form a historical culture in society,” said Valery Falkov. The head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science emphasized that education should be based on the principles of respect for the history of one's country, based on documentary sources and scientific research.
