Shukhov team honored the memory of those killed during the liberation of Belgorod
Today the city of Belgorod celebrates its 78th anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders.
During the Battle of Kursk, on August 5, 1943, the cities of Belgorod and Orel were liberated from the Nazi invaders by the troops of the Western, Central, Voronezh, Bryansk and Steppe fronts. The city of Oryol was liberated in the morning, and Belgorod at 18:00 Moscow time. By order of IV Stalin of August 5, 1943, an artillery salute was given to the troops that liberated these cities in Moscow. It was the first fireworks in the years of the Great Patriotic War, so the title of "City of the first fireworks" was assigned to Belgorod and Orel.
By tradition, on this day, employees of the university, student associations, activists of construction detachments, cadets of the Military Training Center named after Hero of the Soviet Union, General of the Army N.F. Vatutin at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov paid tribute to the memory of the heroes who defended the city in the war and gave their lives for the Great Victory. Members of the university delegation, headed by the chairman of the joint trade union committee of the university, Georgy Golikov, laid flowers at the "Eternal Fire" memorial complex on Cathedral Square.
