Robo-volunteering at Shukhov State technological University
The first TEDx conference "The Day to Come" was held in the Belgorod Region. A variety of interesting topics were raised at the conference: from industry to human personality.
The main goal of the event is to share ideas worth spreading. This should be done as simply and fun as possible. A total of 8 speakers from Moscow, Belgorod and Stary Oskol took part. The first speaker was the head of the Center for Metamorphosis of the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov.
He spoke about robo-volunteering and the Makers Against COVID-19 movement. “A modern maker is someone who, in a world where anything can be bought for money, prefers to create things with his own hands using traditional or modern, personal or collective tools. A real maker is more often driven by curiosity and the challenge “Will I be able to?” Than by the desire to earn money or become famous, ”the head of the Metamorphosis Center for Contemporary Art began his speech. Over the past year of difficulties and limitations, the team of the Makers Against COVID-19 movement has been able to show that the role of engineers, technicians, 3D-printing specialists has been clearly underestimated. In just one month, a distributed production network was deployed and hundreds of protective products were supplied to doctors. During the year, more than 5,000 doctors of the Belgorod region were equipped. "The next chapter of this social movement will be the development of Robovolunteering," the head of the Metamorphosis Center for Metamorphosis of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov. Robots are self-driving cars, drones, 3D printers, and automated machine tools.
These are all machines that perform programmed actions. In the next 20 years, humanity is waiting for great upheavals - more and more advanced machines in one form or another will become commonplace. Members of the movement urge the owners of such cars to donate their time for the public good. This method of philanthropy was called Robovolunteering. A fund will be formed in the future. This movement has good prospects: several large crowdfunding campaigns have been collected, assistance has been organized for about 6% of medical personnel in Russia.
In addition, such projects are the best way to popularize the value of engineering competencies and the importance of modern digital technologies.
