Every year more and more active and caring people join the ranks of volunteers who are ready to make the world a better and kinder place. The popularity of volunteering is increasing every year, and the number of those who selflessly give their time and energy for the good of the country and the world is growing. In Russia, volunteer centers are being created and are actively functioning, where volunteers daily provide tremendous support to people, protect the environment and carry out socially useful and educational activities. Volunteer Center BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov was created back in 2017 on the initiative of students.
The voluntary student association was open for self-realization of students through involvement in various types of social activity, support, promotion of student initiatives in the field of volunteering. Students participate in city and university subbotniks, help veterans, visit orphanages, organize environmental and sports events, and help organize intra-university events.

Now the flagship university is the only one in the Belgorod region, which is part of the Association of Volunteer Centers of Russia. The center has over 500 active volunteers, and the total number of students involved in the university's volunteer movement is about 2,000. #VolunteerBSTU Behind all the successes of the volunteers there is a colossal work: the implementation of large volunteer events and projects, the popularization of a healthy lifestyle, environmental, social and media volunteering, as well as active work in the ranks of student government and student associations. On the eve of the Great Victory Day, the volunteers visited the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Students presented gifts and communicated with people who presented a peaceful sky over their heads. The conversations were filled with memories of the war and the Victory, not only with tears in their eyes, but also with wide smiles. By the City Day, university volunteers have become co-organizers of the quiz "About Belgorod and Famous Compatriots". On the Vezelka embankment, students of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov tested the knowledge of Belgorod residents about the history of their native land and their famous fellow countrymen. The university has developed not only social volunteering, but also environmental. Volunteers annually participate in the VuzEcoFest youth festival, aimed at improving the environment in Russian cities by introducing the concept of green universities.
According to the results of 2019, the EcoDobro BSTU squad of the Volunteer Center entered the TOP-5 of the best student teams. In addition, with the assistance of eco-volunteers, a separate waste collection was introduced at the university. The introduction of this practice, thematic campaigns and campaigns made it possible, in a fairly short time, to show all students and staff how to benefit the environment, even by throwing out garbage. At the all-Russian rally of "green" universities in Russia, which took place within the framework of the Interregional rally of student environmental clubs #Ekodobro, representatives of BSTU im. V.G. Shukhov became both participants and organizers. Also, the Shukhov eco-team took part in the All-Russian action "Water of Russia", which was held within the framework of the federal project "Preservation of unique water bodies" of the National Project "Ecology".
Eco-volunteers collected about 80 bags of garbage, which made a significant contribution to the preservation of unique water bodies in Russia. “Caring for the environment is an activity, first of all, for the future. Protecting the environment, we think about what kind of legacy our descendants will have: that we will leave them green forests and deep rivers or desert lands, ”shared the head of the eco-detachment of the BSTU Volunteer Center. This initiative has already found support in the person of Special Representative Sergei Ivanov, Director General of ACI Svetlana Chupsheva, Head of Rosmolodezh Alexander Bugaev and many others. "Do it!" will unite the efforts of organizations that are engaged in environmental volunteering.
Among such organizations is BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov, university activists have been engaged in the formation of environmental culture, the development of environmental volunteerism and environmental education for several years. Based on the results of long work, for the colossal contribution to the development of the volunteer movement and for active volunteering in the field of environmental preservation, the coordinator of the Volunteer Center of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov Mikhail Spirin was awarded a new professional status. Now he is the only regional coordinator of the All-Russian public organization of volunteer environmentalists "Do!" in the Belgorod region. #We are together During the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, a mutual aid campaign “#WeVremeste” appeared throughout Russia. Later, it grew into a whole movement aimed at supporting the elderly, people with limited mobility and everyone in need of help. Shukhov's volunteers interact with university staff and students who are in self-isolation. The guys deliver essential products and medicines.
In 2020, volunteers of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov were active in the headquarters of the regional resource center for the development of volunteerism. Volunteers throughout the region provided one-time targeted support to citizens at risk within the framework of the Food Aid project.
For lonely elderly people with a monthly income of less than nine thousand rubles, invalids of the first and second groups, volunteers of the regional pivotal university delivered food sets, which include: cereals, pasta, canned food, milk, sausages and cookies. “I would advise everyone to go volunteer at least to see how other people live and to be able to make this world a little better,” - Mikhail Spirin. More than 117 thousand people from all regions of our country have joined the ranks of volunteers of the #WeVmeste movement. And of them, only about 20 thousand became owners of a commemorative medal, timed to work in the difficult time of the spread of COVID-19. You need to keep your distance, handle your hands and be sure to wear masks. Volunteer-makers of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov made and continue to make not only reusable masks, but also protective screens and adapters for snorkel masks. The children first distributed the manufactured products among their colleagues, university medical staff, watchmen, security guards and students living in the hostel. Then they began to carry out supplies to many hospitals in Belgorod and medical institutions throughout the region. Also in the center of the “technologist's” workshops, there is a team of activists working on sewing the reusable masks familiar to all, which are now more needed than ever. Teachers, staff and volunteers work every day for the benefit of the university, colossal and time-consuming work is being done to ensure the most comfortable learning conditions and students' pastime.
