French Students Visited a Diorama Museum
The delegation of French students from the University of Strasbourg and the Graduate School of Marketing are on a visit at Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov. Within a month the envoys from France will study the Russian language on the basis of French linguistic resource center at the university. In addition to the intensive training course the program of the visit includes sightseeing tours around Belgorod and the region. On July the sixth the cultural program started with a visit to the diorama museum "The Battle of Kursk."
Nowadays the younger generation in Europe know little about the bloodiest of wars in the human history - the World War II. Very few they had heard about the Battle of Kursk. Visiting the exhibition made the French students to discover unknown pages of history. Our guests had the opportunity to experience the scale and scope of the battle, heroism of Soviet soldiers. In the Hall of Battle Glory the young French people got familiarized with the materials that reflected the situation on the German-Soviet front before the start of the Battle. Our guide spoke about the generals I.S. Konev, N.F. Vatutin, M.E. Katukov, M.S. Shumilov, ordinary soldiers participating in the great battle. The French were pleased to hear about the pilots squadron “Normandie – Niemen”, who took part in the Kursk Battle.
But the most exciting impression on young French people were made by the diorama the "Prokhorovka battle" that made it possible to see for themselves how things were actually happenning. From the observation deck the young peoples from a friendly country were anxiously looking at the layout of the area where the battle took place, heard exploding shells, the central radio announcer of that time Yuri Levitan, a solemn message from Soviet Information Bureau announcing the defeat of the Nazis. In conclusion, the French students warmly thanked the Directorate for sightseeing tour of the museum, which allowed them to take a fresh look at the Soviet contribution to victory in World War II
