Expanding the cooperation horizons
On June 14, completing their stay at Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov, a delegation of the Association of Teachers of Iraq visited the university. During the two-week business trip the guests visited a number of educational institutions in the region, got familiarized with school programs, and also met with the leadership of local department of education, culture and youth policy.
The summing up of the stay results in Belgorodia the parties held a press conference on June 14, at the hall of the University Academic Council.
The head of delegation, president of Iraq Teachers Union, Mr. Mohsin Ali Nsaif thanked the BSTU administration for the warm welcome to the land of Belgorod and told the reporters in detail about the activities of the organization he heads. According to Mr. Mohsin Ali Nsaifa, Iraq Teachers Union has over 400 thousand people and has a high status and wide-ranging powers, uniting all the professors and teachers of the republic. In addition, this organization is working closely with the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Education.
Much has been said about the current issues of concern for the Iraqi youth. The legacy of former president Saddam Hussein has left an unfavorable trace on the development of higher education. Particularly, high level of illiteracy, lack of knowledge of the middle-aged generation in a particular specialty. Despite the present situation, the government of Iraq is making efforts to solve this problem.
"Today, our country has an urgent need not only in highly qualified doctors and engineers, but also specialists of other professional fields. There is a growing demand for production specialists, including workers in different sectors, which will help restore the country's economy "- said the head of the foreign delegation in a conversation with journalists.
Speaking of secondary education system of Iraq, Mr. Mohsin Ali Nsaif noted that unlike the Russian system, Iraqi students get an education for 12 years, with 6 of them are assigned to primary education, and the last 3 years is the basic training. He also marked the fact that higher professional education is not only people from the high-income, but also from middle-income class families. The geography of choice of educational institutions of higher education is presented fairly widely, but many are trying to get an education at their home country. Russian universities are also quite popular among the youth of Iraq. Those who can afford get education in London and other European capitals.

Mr. Mohsin Ali Nsaif is currently a lecturer at Baghdad University. According to him, the republic has universities with over 200 years history. Many of them provide training in Arabic and English, most have modern technical equipment, but experience deficiency in some modern teaching methods and programs.
At the end the vice-chancellor for BSTU International Relations, professor R.V . Lesovik, stressed the importance of this visit:
"It's nice when our university is known abroad. And not only known but also enters into agreements on training highly qualified specialists in different fields. We hope that further cooperation between BSTU named after V.G Shukhov and Iraq Teachers Union will strengthen the friendship between our countries. "
