Professor from France met with students of the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov
Gwen Le Saut from the Higher Mining School of the city of Ales (France) gave a lecture “Fundamentals of Crystallography and the Rietveld Method in X-Ray Phase Analysis” at the regional flagship university. There were students from second and third year students of the Department of Materials Science and Materials Technology.
This year, the professor paid a working visit to the university for the fourth time. Previously, the scientist came to the main university in order to exchange experience, establish international relations and conduct joint research.
Gwen Le South highly appreciated the available scientific achievements of the team, the good preparation of students, the modern instrumental base, and the promising areas of university research.
As part of his report, the professor introduced the pupils of the basic university of the region with the basics of x-ray phase analysis, which is the main method for determining the composition and structure of materials in the field of mineralogy, cement and metallurgy. He also talked about the basics of crystallography and diffraction, raised the issue of the appearance and use of x-rays, demonstrated the results of scientific experiments, and suggested that children solve several problems in physics.
Students listened carefully to the teacher and took an active part in the discussion. Particular attention was drawn to the use of X-ray phase analysis for the extraction and diagnosis of natural minerals.
At the end of the meeting, Gwen Le South thanked the leadership and staff of the university for the warm welcome and hospitality, expressed hope for further cooperation.
