Belgorod Airport was named after Vladimir Shukhov
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree naming 46 airports in the country, among them Belgorod.
From today, Belgorod International Airport bears the name of the great engineer Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov. 50 thousand Russians voted for the candidacy of a famous Belgorod citizen.
Several dozen new airports across the country received new names. In particular, the Moscow airport "Vnukovo" was named after aircraft designer Andrei Tupolev, "Domodedovo" - scientist Mikhail Lomonosov, "Sheremetyevo" - poet Alexander Pushkin.
Recall that the names of prominent compatriots who are assigned to the airports of the country were identified in the All-Russian action "Great Names of Russia". The competition was held from October 11 to December 23, 2018. In total, more than 6 million people took part in the popular vote.
Among the candidates in the name of the Belgorod airport were Nikolai Vatutin, Bogdan Khmelnitsky and others.
