Belgorod International Airport named after the engineer Shukhov
The final voting of the contest “Great Names of Russia”, in which Russians could choose names for 42 airports of the country, ended. All the names of the applicants, which passed into the final stage, were determined on the basis of sociological surveys.
More than 50 thousand compatriots voted for assigning to the air gates of Belogorie the name of the great genius of engineering thought Vladimir G. Shukhov. Now Belgorod State Technological University and Belgorod International Airport are named after the great scientist of the region.

Belgorod International Airport, which now bears the name of a great engineer, as a unique and original modern engineering structure, will certainly take a worthy place in the same row with the breakthrough engineering solutions of V.G. Shukhov.
V.G. Shukhov, the great-grandson of the engineer, president of the Shukhov Tower Foundation, said in an interview with the university’s press service that Belgorod University of Technology had long been an integral part of Shukhov’s artistic heritage, and Shukhov, in turn, had become a part of the university.
Our university is worthy of the name of the great scientist and engineer.
