The university held a traditional kickboxing tournament
Traditional kickboxing tournament in memory of the champion of Europe, master of sports of Russia of international class, a former university student Sergey Polivody was held at the sports complex of the flagship university of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov.
Qualifying matches where athletes from 8 to 18 years old took part was held on the first day of the competition. The final fights that took place on the second day of the competition revealed the strongest participants of the tournament in each category.
It should be recalled that Sergey Polivoda studied at Institute of Economics and Management of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov. During his first year of education he joined the martial arts. Alexey Yarmak was the first coach of the athlete. Then, as a mentor for the future champion, he was replaced by honored coach of Russia Valentin Pushkarev.
In just a few years Polivoda achieved high results. After a year of strenuous training, the athlete became the winner of the open championship of the Central Federal District in kickboxing and the Russian professional league “Kitek”. And, half a year later, in December 2007, Sergey brought gold from the Russian Open Tournament “Peter’s Cup”. In 2008, he became the champion of Russia in the section "full contact with low-kick" also he won the European champion title by fulfilling the standard of a world-class master of sports in the national team of our country. In 2009, a young man tragically died.
Sergey Polivoda was not just a purposeful, but also a very hardworking person. As his first coach, master of sports of Russia Alexey Yarmak, said, the fighter achieved such high results thanks to his perseverance.
