Development of the university scientists will help in road safety
Scientists of the flagship university have developed and tested in practice a geographic information system for monitoring the technical means of traffic management.
«This scientific development is a software and hardware complex that is partially built into the existing system of photo and video recording, partially installed additionally, for example, to the traffic police cars or public transport. Know-how is designed to ensure road safety», Ivan Novikov, head of the department for the operation and organization of the university transport.
«In addition to monitoring the traffic management, the system will accumulate information about organizations responsible for the maintenance of specific sections of the network, which will promptly respond to violations», the head of the department said.
According to him, the development has successfully proved itself in pilot tests in the regional traffic police, which were carried out on the Belgorod-Pavlovsk road section.
Geographic information system for control of technical means of road traffic management is part of a large software and hardware complex developed at BSTU named after. V.G. Shukhov, jointly with the State Road Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Belgorod region. The complex includes data from the GLONASS system, maps of public roads, characteristics of traffic flows, technical means of managing these flows and public transport management systems.
