Belgorod Shukhov State Technological University and Zambia: a Dialogue of Partners
A delegation of the Republic of Zambia represented by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to Russia Mr. Frederick Shumba Hapunda and Education Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia to the Russian Federation Mr. Michael Mundambo Laimo arrived at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov on a two-day business visit. The distinguished guests arrived at our University at the invitation of BSTU, forwarded by the Rector, doctor of economics, Professor S. Glagolev.
The visit was the next step in expanding and strengthening the cooperation between the university and the Republic of Zambia.
Earlier in University has been visited twice by the Education Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia to the Russian Federation, Mr. Michael Mundambo Laimo. Having acquainted with the university and its material and technical facilities, living conditions of foreign students, the security system of the University, the representative of a friendly state appealed to the leadership of the university, to enroll young people from Zambia to study at the technological university, which resulted in coming of over thirty Zambians for studies.
Stepping on the Belgorod land the visitors have expressed a desire to learn about our city as quickly as possible. A brief night-time tour of Belgorod, a short walk in the city center in the morning - all this has left a lasting impression.
In the morning of September 20, Zambian representatives visited the local government office and had a meeting with V.A. Sergachev. the First Deputy Governor of Belgorod region, Head of Personnel Policy of Belgorod region. Valery Alexandrovich said: "We understand that the representatives of other countries have an interest in higher education institutions in our oblast, which means that we train good specialists and intend to further develop cooperation with foreign states."
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia to Russia, His Excellency Frederick Shumba Hapunda expressed satisfaction: "It is good that we immediately are having a meeting on such a high level, and we are highly pleased with mutual cooperation. And the fact the university specializes in building profession, this makes it extremely important for Zambia. I know that students from Zambia have appreciated the care that you have shown for them in the land of Belgorodia. I sincerely want to thank you for such a warm welcome. "
In conclusion, BSTU Rector, Professor S. Glagolev, who was present at the meeting said: "Today, in the universities of Belgorod are providing training to about 70 students from Zambia, for the past 2 years admissions have been particularly active. We attribute this to the decision to appoint Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia in the Russian Federation Frederick Hapunda Shumba. I hope that, jointly with the regional government, we will do our best to make foreign students training at our universities most comfortable and enjoyable." Sergey Nikolaevich also gave a brief information on the guests’ schedule during their stay in our city and the university.
