Graduate School of Engineers in Ales, France - collaboration in progress
The delegation of Graduate School of Engineers (Ales, France), represented by professor Eric Garcia Diaz, the Head of the department “Construction materials science and structures in civil engineering” and Alexis Evstratov – senior scientist of the research center “Louis Leprince-Ringuet”, had a meeting with students and university stuff during two-day visit. The guests were respectful to the warm welcome in Belgorod. Also they presented in detail one of the most elite technical European educational institution to the Russian colleagues.
- At present,- as senior scientist of the research center “Louis Leprince-Ringuet” and project director of “Nanostructures and functionalized surfaces” A. Evstratov mentioned,- Graduate School of Engineers in Ales (Ecole des Mines d’Ales) ranks the first category of technical universities and this school is incorporated into 6 Graduate Schools, supervised by the Ministry of Industry of the French Republic. Basic areas of activity – risk and environmental management; materials science and mechanics, information technologies. It is of no less importance that Languedoc-Roussillon region, where Graduate School of engineers is located, is in the South of France in the city of Ales. Basically, this region is developing due to mining factories, therefore Graduate School of Engineers activity strongly connected with infrastructure development of this region.
Also, Alexis Albertovich explained how they train scientists in Engineering high school in Ales. Applicants undergo strong selection process: еvery applicant has to finish college to get bachelor’s degree. Then they have to attend preparatory courses in speciality oriented classes and pass all exams.
Today, the duration of the course at Graduate School of Engineers is 3 years. During the first year the students get knowledge in the common core of engineering disciplines, and for the next 2 years – within their specialization area.
Much interesting information was offered concerning the fields of activity, chosen by the students and which present interest for them. A lot of students would like to work in the areas of environmental protection, power engineering, architecture and others. Also French young people are trying to participate in humanitarian missions and fulfill the projects in developing countries.
When asked about scientific potential of our university, Alexis Albertovich firmly answered the following:
- BSTU is a rapidly developing university, meeting international standards.
Also subject of bilateral collaboration was discussed on this meeting. Graduate School of Engineers (Ales) collaborates with universities of Germany, Austria, Russia and other European countries.
They have a lot of foreign students, including those from CIS countries. Moreover, the school has an extensively developed students and lecturers exchange program., including a double degree program.
At the end of this meeting, the university guests appealed to our students to work hard and pay particular attention to foreign languages knowledge.
Let us remind you that in 2011 Graduate School of Engineers and BSTU signed a cooperation agreement, which includes the research area.
