A closer acquaintance with Russian Traditions
On July 28 the students of the preparatory faculty at BSTU and the citizens of Turkey , who came to take a Russian Language course, went for an excursion to the centre of Russian national culture in the village of Kupino near the town of Shebekino.
Visiting this wonderful place became traditional for foreign students. Students from Turkey, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon had a chance to learn about the history, culture and everyday life of local people. The most of the exhibits were made and restored by the schoolchildren living in Kupino. The visitors could not only see them, but touch them and even try them on.
The decoration and household items in a traditional wooden Russian house (a log hut) was of the most interest. The young people had a pleasure to sit on the oven, swing the cradle, hold the samples of old Russian amour. In the craftsmanship section of the museum they witnessed the process of making dishes, toys and fabrics like it used to be done in the old Russia. The girls tried to work with the spinning wheel and a weaving loom, the young men made attempts to make a pot with a potter’s wheel.
At the end of the excursion to a Russian peasants’ farm of XIX century the students had a chance to test their strength and accuracy during playing traditional Russian games. The excursion left the warmest memories. Such events have a great significance for promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the nations.
