The representatives of the Sultanate of Oman answered journalists’ questions
On June 4, 2010, BSTU Chancellor prof. S.N. Glagolev, first vice-chancellor on academic activity prof. N.A. Shapovalov, first vice-chancellor on research, innovation and international activity prof. V.S. Lesovik, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Sarmi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher education of the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Mahmood Mubarak Habib Al-Suleimi, Director General of Scholarships, Mr. Said Al Rahbi -Head of Department for the recognition of foreign universities in the Sultanate of Oman- Dr. Jamil Fadel, the Secretary of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Russian Federation, Captain Murad Al Mamari, the first BSTU student, a citizen of Oman, studying a master degree program, Dr. Jaser Allaham, professor of Life Safety department at BSTU, took part in the press conference for Belgorod mass media.
One of the questions of the most interest was the content of the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Higher education of the Sultanate of Oman and BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov and the significance of the documents for both parties.
S.N. Glagolev, BSTU Chansellor, explained that the signing of the agreement has become an important step for Russian universities to enter the market of educational services in which the major part was represented by Europe, USA and Australia.
In his turn, H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al Sarmi answered that such an agreement was the first to be concluded between the Ministry of Higher Education of the Sultanate of Oman and a Russian University.
At present the number of Omani students in the Russian Federation is not significant, however, in the near future the situation is going to change. The Sultanate of Oman experiences the urgent demand for specialists in different areas including economics, power engineering, oil and gas sector, construction, architecture. H.E., Dr. Abdullah Al Sarmi stressed that Oman also needs university lecturers.
The journalists were interested in students’ incentives. It was stressed that in many the state takes upon itself the tuition fees, medical insurance and scholarship.
